I had my greatest success recently. I particularly enjoyed it because it was a relatively simple solution and bypassed what in many other situations would have been a good show of human bias and pseudo-logic before arriving at an imperfect answer. It was a microcosm of how we expect data to shape business decisions.
Declarative Visualisations in Python
Two things happened recently - I ate dim sum with colleagues and I came across Altair. The two got combined.
Time Series Analysis
For the last few months, I have worked on a significant project to forecast volumes that would greatly assist with decision making and prioritisation.
Topological Data Analysis
I was privileged to receive training and apply Ayasdi to some business problems. It's USP is on the use of Topological Data Analysis - an approach to put similar data points "near" each other, connecting them as edges and nodes.
A lot has happened
Over these few months, I've had a lot of good opportunities to get properly stuck in. I've covered some real examples on: - Neural Networks (Multi Layer Perceptron) - EWMA and ARIMA Time Series Modelling - Topological Data Analysis I'll find some time to go into more detail on these. What's with the film poster? … Continue reading A lot has happened
More Bits of Wisdom with NLTK
Following on from my last post, we can improve on the algorithm by modelling as Markov Chains. Taking two words together (a bigram), we can probabilistically determine what the next word should be based on our existing corpus. As we build our wisdom, the last two words are evaluated to determine the next word, and … Continue reading More Bits of Wisdom with NLTK
Random Bits of Wisdom with NLTK
Have you ever been in the middle of a conversation and thought, what if I could say something totally inspiring and stop people in their tracks? Now you can.
The Long Road Ahead
I'm acutely aware that there are still so many other skills I'd like to build up.
If It Ain’t Broke…
In my last post, I renewed my interest in Linux. And I did install Ubuntu (with a Cinnamon skin for that Windows familiarity) as a dual boot partition on my main laptop. Unfortunately, it broke everything. Everything.
It Begins
So to kick off this journey, I'm trying to make do with whatever I have lying around. I was pretty pleased to find my 10 year old Asus eeePC 701 - the original device that revolutionised the netbook market.
